The FIDE World Chess Cup will be held on September 2-28 of 2017, in the framework of project Check in Georgia. Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Tariel Khechikashvili, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aka Lodia and Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Ketevan Bochorishvili spoke about it.
The meeting was attended by Giorgi Giorgadze, President of Georgian Chess Federation and President of European Chess Union Zurab Azmaiparashvili, who is also the director of Chess Olympiad Batumi 2018 Organizing Committee.
Holding such a tournament in Georgia demonstrates that Georgia holds an important place on the international sports map.
The Chess World Cup serves the same goal as Check in Georgia – more people to visit Georgia, to spend the best time, to have professional advancement here, to rest and to check in Georgia on the world map.
Tariel Khechikashvili said that this is certainly a recognition of our country and those reforms, which the Georgian government carries out in the direction of sports. Georgia holds a worthy place on World Sport map, which, of course, contributes to increasing awareness of the country.
Tariel Khechikashvili: “All the people who will visit the World Cup in Georgia will definitely have the desire to revisit our country again. All this will be a great help to future development and advancement of economy and sports tourism in Georgia. Most importantly, our fans will be able to see world class chess players in Georgia and enjoy their performing class. ”
Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Ketevan Bochorishvili added that tourism is one of the main priorities for this country and in this regard Check In Georgia project is most distinguished and it promotes the popularization of the country in different directions.
Ketevan Bochorishvili: “The main goal of Georgia is to host the World Level Tournament. This tournament is being covered by media of a lot of countries, which is obviously a positive influence on the popularity and image of Georgia. ”
